Opening Complete News Article in a different (new) window
« on: October 12, 2007, 05:50:11 AM »
I just finished designing a website for a customer of mine (http://www.insti-tests.com/doral5estrellas/ganadores_mensuales.shtml) where I am using your "newsscript" software.  The way it's setup now, when a person clicks on the "more" link he/she goes to the "news" page.  That's what should happen.  However, I would preffer to have that "news" template open in a separate "blank window that I could program in terms of size.  Obviously, the same thing would have to happen if the person were to click on the headline.  That way reading the entire article wouldn't drive the person away from the original page and the news page wouldn't need to be so wide.  I'm not a programmer,so a little hand holding will be appreciated.

Thank you for an excellent program.

Hi accurate,

Quote
Target to open full news item from the headlines page (can be _new, _self, ...).
my $newstarget = "_self";

The XTra version has an option to make the target a new window.  If you are using the XTra version, that's the option to use.  For available targets see here: http://www.htmlcodetutorial.com/linking/_A_TARGET.html

So yes... the XTra version can pop new windows for the news articles.  I am not sure myself about the size of the windows though.  But most browsers these days work with tabbed browsing and a new window will often result in a new tab so size considerations are a bit passť.
