The Lounge / Re: Creator of the EZ Scripts passed away
« Last post by Paul on June 02, 2017, 08:00:33 PM »
Here is an answer to some of  my question above that I found on the old EZ site located here.
http://www.ezscripting.co.uk/

Quote
EZscripting was created in 1999 by Darren Deans and based on an original idea by Mutasem Abudahab. In 2000 the scripts were fully re-written and launched on EZscripting.co.uk as free downloads. The scripts soon became very popular and have been downloaded millions of times. By 2003 the site moved domain to a new home EZscripting.com and the advanced 'Xtra' versions were launched. In 2006 the site changed ownership to Jan Buys, however very sadly Jan died in 2012. The project continues today managed by Jason Tizedes.

Thanks to ePage for reminding me of the same great memories he mentions in his post below.

The change would have to be on the server end. The scripts do not change themselves, nor is there some kind of update pushed to the scripts. I'd first check with your host and see if they changed or updated PERL or if your host directory paths have changed.

Hi All,
Suddenly I received this message after the scripts worked fine for the past 10 years.
(Please, check path to your database file on head of script !)
What has happened.
Has there been a change i.e. Apache2 or a new .js(javascript) update or a change in how perl (cvs) is recognised?
Any answers would be appreciated.
Thanks

CSV Database Scripts / Re: Formating Date Field
« Last post by Rob on August 21, 2016, 04:15:09 PM »
Hi Steve,

If you are using the csvupdate.pl script or the csvedit.pl script to edit records, then you would need to hack the script; however, if you are using a custom update template to edit/update records, then you can write the date and/or time into a form field using JavaScript  There is some helpful info on how to do this in the link that Jason posted above.

Also, be sure to add the new field name to your database, but don't call it Date as that name is reserved for the built in date stamp within the scripts.

CSV Database Scripts / Re: CSVread Sorting

Missing one giant piece here. The free scripts do not do ordering!  ;D

Sorry guys, but I've been out of town. If you check the features list for both the csvread and csvsearch scripts http://www.ezscripting.com/csv/search.htm & http://www.ezscripting.com/csv/read.htm you will see that the features for sorting by field and for ascending and descending order are not supported in the free scripts. Additionally, if you look at the example links on those pages, the examples are separated between the free version and the xtra version - http://www.ezscripting.com/csv/read.htm#Running%20the%20script

Sorry but the Xtra version is needed for what you want to do  :(

Perhaps I am mistaken, but since everything else about the script works, i.e. I can see the contents of the database by using the templates, does that not mean that the database file can be in the cgi-bin file?  The same applies as you state about the path to PERL at the top of the page, the path to my database and template files.

Are you sure that the sorting will work with a basic version of the script, that I don't need the Xtra version because that is about the only other reason that it should not be working. Sometimes when I re-read the instructions, it seems that it has to be the Xtra version.

I will try using the email address you provide to contact Jason as I have not heard back from him so far.  Hopefully I can get a response and a resolution.

Thanks again for your help to this point.
