forumscript help needed
« on: August 18, 2006, 02:30:41 PM »
I didn't see forumscripts listed as one of the topic forums here, so I thought I'd ask here.

The forumscript is working, that's no problem. But I can't get the images for the template.htm to work. I put the images in the cgi-bin folder where the template.htm is but it didn't help. I also tried changing the path so that it went to httpdocs where the background image and logo image are but that didn't work either.

Thanks,
Barbara

Forumscript will soon have a separate subforum here.

Do not keep your images in the cgi-bin or its subfolders.  Most servers are configured to consider every file there as a script.  So your server will try to execute your image rather than show it.

Put it somewhere else and ask your host helpdesk about the right path and url to that folder.

Hi,

Thanks for the response. We are a non profit organisation and so we had to pick a 'cheap' host. Our host...hosting2go...only answers technical hosting questions and will not answer questions concerning webpage building, html, etc. Plus they have no phone service. All questions have to be asked via a help board.

All the regular webpages for our site are in an httpdocs folder. If I change the path of the photo's on the template.htm in the cig-bin folder to the photo's in the httpdocs folder....I still get nothing. I get something like...

www.hetblauwedorp.nl/cgi-bin/httpdocs/images/parel4.jpg

That happens even if I don't put cgi-bin in the path...it does it apparently automatically. How can I avoid that?

Thanks,
Barbara

Could you share what the problem was?  Or was it just the path being wrong?

Thanks

The problem was with the html code. I finally used 'http://' and then the rest. And it worked. Probably not the 'best' way to do it, but whatever works eh? lol I've never had any proper schooling or training in webpage construction. Learned everything by trial and error.
